The Better Brother novel Chapter 7

As Sarah pulled the door open, she caught sight of Fiona standing near the head of the table.

They barely knew each other, and given their past friction, Sarah simply averted her eyes, pretending not to notice her.

As for Killian, she had absolutely zero intention of greeting him.

The doctor-patient dynamic ended at the clinic doors. Outside of it, they were strangers.

But before she could take a single step, Fiona's voice rang out. "Dr. Vance, why don't you join us for a drink since you're already here?"

Sarah's hand paused on the door handle. Her tone was flat. "I've already eaten. Sorry to interrupt your evening."

Crashing a private dinner full of strangers was wildly inappropriate.

She had only knocked because she had been waiting outside for ten minutes, and the waitress hadn't come out.

"Oh, don't be like that," Fiona said, walking around the table toward her. "I know you're miserable about getting dumped. Since you're here, just have a drink. Get wasted, and you'll forget all about it."

Sarah raised her eyes, shooting Fiona an icy glare.

It didn't take a genius to see exactly what Fiona was doing.

She just wanted an audience to mock her over Jared.

A cold, mocking smile touched Sarah's lips. "I don't have your talent for entertaining strange men at dinner parties without it affecting my day job."

Having dropped that line, Sarah didn't say another word. She pulled the door shut behind her and walked away.

Inside the room, Fiona stood frozen, her face twisting into an ugly scowl.

Did she just call me a bar girl?!

Seeing his niece humiliated, Frank quickly tried to save face, scoffing loudly. "These young kids straight out of med school are all so arrogant. They don't respect anyone."
