The Lycan's Forbidden Mate novel Chapter 187

187 Safe Haven

When Ophelia felt the scorching burn on the back of her feet, she knew what was coming for her. She had been expecting to open her eyes in bliss and see her husband next to her. Unfortunately, all that she could see was fire all around her.

Unconscious for two weeks, she never once encountered the fire god. But now, why now?! Tears flowed from her eyes, her loud screams of excruciating pain persisted from her throat until they felt sore and she felt breathless.

Insect!That voice bellowed in frustration.

Ophelia collapsed to her knees, coughing up blood. You bastard.

Bastard?! You have been cursed!! You disregarded my advice and wed the demon Lycan!

Ophelia’s eyes quivered with agony. Cursed? So what?! Do you expect me to grovel before you?

Be silent! You are spouting absurdity. Take a seat and watch as fateAs the order aligns perfectly with your disobedience.”

Ophelia clenched her teeth, anguish visible in her tear filled eyes. Bastard!” She let out a scream and got to her feet, trembling violently. I will rip you to pieces if I find you! And, I shall make you experience this terrible agony ten times more!

Laughter echoed across the land. He sounded as if she had just cracked a joke and it provoked her even more. Breathing deeply, she collapsed to her knees again.

The laughter abruptly stopped, and the fire burst forth, more powerful

than before, causing Ophelia to scream loudly and intensely as they completely burned her skin.

Cry out! Beg me!The voice bawled in a fit of wrath, and the fire increased as Ophelia’s scream got louder and louder.

Blood spurted from her eyes and nostrils, unrelenting in its flow rather than being tears. Even though her throat stung, she couldn’t stop yelling. There was no other way to express her anguish.

I warn you but all you show is ignorance! The voice cried out. Your fate has been written, the foundation has been laid! but you are using those mortal hands of yours to create your own destiny! A destiny that will lead to your downfall and the downfall of all those around you! Do you know how many problems you are giving to everyone?! Do you know?! Just one thing! One thing! Do not get close to the one who intends to bring chaos into your life! You two are not fated but still! STILL!

Ophelia continued to scream, her breathing becoming dangerously shallow and her heart slowing down. I..she tried to speak between her screams and to be honest, she didn’t even know what to say. All she wanted to do was try. This was not where she wanted to die.

Do you believe that you can disobey the order? You’re cursed with a second chance, so consider yourself fortunate!

Ophelia was stunned. Cursed with a second chance? What did that mean?

Listen!!The fire god began. Chaos will prevail, darkness will swallow, blood will be spilled, sorrow will follow. Only with your sacrifice can you fix everything. Once your curse has purified the world and restored pride to the order, you must never again battle with fate.

Wwhat?Ophelia breathlessly asked, not understanding a thing. Abruptly, the flames went out and she was engulfed in a freezing darkness.

Ophelia? Ophelia! Wake up Ophelia! She heard a familiar, terrified voice yelling in the distance, but it was becoming closer and closer.

Slowly, her lips parted, and her eyes opened to meet dilated tear filled crimson eyes. She was able to see her reflection in her eyes.. blood rather than tears were streaming down her cheeks, blood trickling out of her nose and earsShe raised her hand and lightly touched his cheek with her palm.

Lai Lai,she uttered in a weak, hoarse tone. Is it morning?

When she spoke those words, Nikolai’s face twisted with relief even though his body was shaking with anxiety. YYes.A relieved smile curved his lips as his voice cracked.

Ophelia gave a feeble smile. Her thumb gently touched his cheek. I am.. I am okay.

PlPlease..Nikolai embraced her tightly, breathing heavily. Please do not scare me like that again.

Ophelia clutched his shirt, breathing in deeply. That’s not a promise I cannot keep. I’m sorry.”

Nikolai swallowed deeply, holding her tightly, never letting her go. His breath was slowly becoming haggard and his eyes were beginning to show signs of wrath. The gods were becoming too engaged in his quiet

existence.

All he wanted was to be with his beloved and run a kingdom in the way he pleased. He wished for it to flourish and

That was a lie.

He wanted to destroy Celestia. He had suffered too much in his life

because of

However, that was no longer the case, but it didn’t mean it wasn’t on his to do list. No matter what, Celestia was connected to everything that was happening and everything that would happen. No matter the path, he

would make it fall.

His gaze narrowed at the fireplace. The gods, the red moon witches, the dragons, his family, the wolf shifters, the dark fairies, the sacred stonesA sly smile came upon his lips.

He was beginning to feel a sense of pride for having shown such patience for so many things.

He was asleep with Ophelia in his arms. A slumber that had her invading his dreams like the goddess she was. As always.

When he felt her tremble and shudder vigorously, he awoke to find blood flowing out of her ears, her nostrils and out of her closed eyes. It was so terrifying that he thought he was going to lose her. Her heart was slowing, her breathing was forced, her movements becoming weaker and weaker until it became evident to him that she was losing total consciousness.

He tried calling out to her. He tried using his powers to somehow bring her back but it was all in vain. Until…. Now…. The relief that was swirling within him was inexplicable. He wasn’t even aware of the tears that filled his eyes.

Had she simply gone limp in his grasp, what would have become of him? No! He didn’t want to think about that! She was here, with him, alive and healthy. He was going to protect her no matter what. Even if it meant taking his own life.

I think I won’t have an encounter for a while.Ophelia muttered abruptly, startling Nikolai out of his reverie.

I will find him.Nikolai whispered, breaking away from the embrace.

Ophelia remained silent. Rather, she retreated completely into her own thoughts, those words of the fire god reverberating in her mind till she lost all memory of it.

She blinked rapidly. Huh?

She could only recall that she had been cursed.

Do you feel any pain?Nikolai questioned worriedly. You are bleeding. Then he got out of bed, picked her up in his arms, and went to the bathing

room.
