Chapter One Hundred Sixty
“What history? What curse?” Diana asked.
Her voice was calm, but Ravenna could hear the unease beneath it.
Diana sat straighter in her chair despite the exhaustion still weighing on her body. Talon remained close beside her, one hand resting protectively on her shoulder while his attention stayed fixed on the white witch. Enzo stood a short distance away, silent but alert.
The entire room seemed to hold its breath as they waited for Ravenna’s answer, Ravenna looked toward the window. For several moments, she said nothing. Her pale eyes appeared distant, as though she was no longer seeing the Black Howler training grounds or the forests surrounding the Royal Pack. Instead, she seemed to be staring into another time. A time long forgotten by wolves. A time remembered only by witches.
“What I am about to tell you,” Ravenna finally began, “is a story that has been passed down through generations of my kind.”
She slowly turned back toward Diana.
“Every coven knows a version of it. Some believe it is only a cautionary tale told to young witches. Others believe it is a prophecy.”
Her expression darkened.
‘But the oldest families know the truth. It happened.”
Diana exchanged a brief glance with Talon.
“How long ago?” Talon asked.
Thousands of years.”
Ravenna’s voice grew softer.
“So long ago that the borders you know today did not exist. There were no organized packs like Black Howler. There were no royal laws. No Elder Council. No alliances.”
She folded her hands together in front of her.
“There were only territories. Wolves guarded their forests. Witches guarded their lands. And both sides believed the other was an abomination that should never have existed.”
Diana frowned.
“Our kinds were enemies?”
“More than enemies,” Ravenna answered.
“We were forbidden from speaking to one another. Forbidden from trading. Forbidden from offering aid. Forbidden from crossing each other’s borders unless it was for war.”
Her lips tightened.

Chapter Opaleen Sixty
There were no treaties. No friendships. No connections. No involvement of any kind. If a witch was discovered inside wolf territory, she or he was killed. If a wolf was found near a coven, he rarely returned home alive.”
Talon’s jaw hardened.
“And that hatred continued for generations?”
“Yes.”
Ravenna lowered her gaze.
“Children were raised to fear one another before they were old enough to understand why. Witches were taught that wolves were savage beasts who would tear apart anything they could not control. Wolves were taught that witches were deceitful creatures who used magic to corrupt nature itself.”
She gave a sad smile.
“Perhaps both sides believed their hatred was justified. But hatred passed down for generations eventually becomes tradition. And tradition becomes law.”
Dlāna looked thoughtful.
‘So what happened?”
Ravenna’s eyes returned to her.
What happened was that three people were born who were never meant to meet.”
Her voice seemed to change as she spoke. It became slower. More distant. Almost reverent.
The story begins with my ancestor. A white witch named Agatha.”
Ravenna closed her eyes briefly as though she could see the woman standing before her.
‘She was the youngest daughter of the most powerful white witch of her generation. Agatha was known for her healing magic. She could restore poisoned land. She could cure illnesses other witches believed untreatable. She could hear the whispers of nature itself. She was compassionate. Curious. And far too willing to question the laws that governed her people.”
A faint smile touched Ravenna’s face.
“She never understood why wolves and witches had to hate each other. She asked questions no one wanted to answer. Why could witches heal humans but not wolves? Why should blood spilled centuries before decide whom she was allowed to speak to?”
Ravenna’s smile faded.
“Her family believed her kindness would one day destroy her. And perhaps they were right.”
Diana listened carefully.
“And Thorne’s ancestor?”
Ravenna’s hands tightened together.

“Gideon.”
The name left her lips with a strange tenderness.
Clam
“He was a dark witch. A powerful one. Even as a young man, his magic was unlike anything his coven had seen. He controlled the earth. The wind. Shadows. And poisons.”
At the mention of poison, Talon’s arm tightened around Díana. Ravenna noticed, but continued.
“Gideon was feared. Not because he was cruel. Not at first. He was feared because his power had no visible limit. He could split stone with a movement of his hand. He could summon roots from the earth. He could steal the breath from an enemy’s lungs before they even realized they were under attack.”
Her eyes darkened.
“But beneath all that power, Gideon was loyal. He loved his people. He believed witches needed strength to survive. And he believed peace with wolves was impossible.”
Diana tilted her head.
“So Agatha and Gideon were enemies too?”
“No.”
Ravenna’s answer came quickly.
“They were promised to each other.”
The room went silent. Ravenna looked down at her hands.
“Their families arranged the match when they were children. White magic and dark magic. Healing and destruction. Light and shadow. Their union was meant to create a bloodline powerful enough to protect all witches.”
She took a slow breath.
“Gideon loved Agatha. With everything he had.”
Talon watched Ravenna closely.
“And did Agatha love him?”
Ravenna hesitated.
“At first, she believed she did.”
Her voice became quieter.
“They grew up together. Trained together. Shared secrets. He protected her. She calmed the darkness inside him. Everyone believed their union was destined. Even Gideon. Especially Gideon”
She looked at Diana again.
“But then Agatha met your ancestor. Lucian”

Diana’s breath caught slightly.
“Lucian was a werewolf. But he was not an ordinary wolf.”
Her pale eyes sharpened.
“He was the first Silver Wolf ever recorded.”
Artemis immediately stirred inside Diana’s mind.
“The first?”
Diana unconsciously placed a hand over her chest.
Ravenna continued.
“Lucian was born under a silver moon. His fur was said to shine brighter than snow beneath moonlight. He possessed strength beyond that of any Alpha. Poisons could not kill him. Magic could injure him, but it could not control him. And unlike every other wolf of his time…
Ravenna paused.
“…Lucian was not bound to accept the mate chosen for him by fate.”
Diana’s eyes widened.
“He could choose.”
“Yes.”
Ravenna nodded.
“The first Silver Wolf carried the same gift you carry. The freedom to choose where his soul belonged.”
The room grew heavier. Talon looked toward Diana, but she did not turn away from Ravenna.
