Chapter Two Hundred Four

There was silence on the other end of the line. Not the comfortable kind. Not the kind that came when two leaders were simply considering strategy. This silence carried calculation. Concern.

And the weight of knowing that whatever decision came next could affect thousands of wolves.

Talon stood near the desk in his office, one hand resting against the polished wood while the other held the phone tightly against his ear.

Across the room, Diana sat quietly near the window.

She was resting like the healer had ordered, though Talon knew very well that resting did not mean her mind had stopped working.

Her gaze was fixed on him. Watching. Listening. Thinking.

Finally, Damon spoke.

“Alpha King…”

His tone was serious now. No teasing. No irritation. No old hostility. Only the voice of one king speaking to

another.

“I think it would be wise for you to contact your allied packs.”

Talon’s brows pulled together slightly. Damon continued before he could respond.

“I will check every one of our borders.”

His voice became firmer.

“Once I am certain the Rogue Kingdom is secure enough for me to leave, I can bring warriors to the Royal Pack.”

A pause.

“But that will take time.”

Talon looked toward Diana. She was already watching him closely. Damon continued.

“Your allied packs are much closer to Black Howler than we are. If Thorne is preparing to attack you soon, you need support that can reach you quickly.”

Talon did not answer immediately. He hated admitting it, but Damon was right.

The Rogue Kingdom was not close. Even if Damon gathered his strongest warriors immediately and left within the hour, it would still take time for them to reach Black Howler. And Talon did not know how much time they had.

Thorne might attack tonight. Tomorrow. Within hours. There was no way to know. Talon slowly exhaled.

Inside him, Fenrir paced restlessly.

Chapter T

“We do not need Damon.”

Talon almost sighed.

“We might.”

“We are strong.”

“Yes.”

“Our warriors are strong.”

“They are.”

“Then why do we need him?“.

“Because our mate is carrying two pups.”

That immediately quieted Fenrir. Talon continued inside their shared mind

“And because Thorne has magic. Strength alone will not be enough.”

Fenrir growled, but he did not argue. Talon returned his attention to Damon.

“You are right.”

The admission came reluctantly, but honestly.

“I will contact the allied packs.”

Damon gave a quiet grunt of acknowledgment. Talon continued.

“Check your borders first. I do not want you weakening your kingdom if the ferals are preparing to attack you too.”

Damon’s tone darkened.

“They have been circling more frequently.”

That made Talon straighten.

“What do you mean?”

“Scouts have been reporting increased sightings outside our northern and western borders.”

Damon paused.

“No direct attack yet. But enough movement that I do not like it.”

Talon’s jaw tightened. Diana noticed the change in his posture immediately.

“What happened?” she asked softly.

Talon lifted one finger, silently asking her to wait.

Damon continued.

Talon immediately understood. Of course Damon would not. Willow was his mate. His future queen.

And if Thorne was deliberately spreading his feral forces across multiple territories, then the Rogue Kingdom could be another target.

A distraction. A way to prevent Damon from helping Black Howler. The realization settled heavily in Talon’s

mind.

Damon spoke again.

“But if the kingdom is secure enough, I will come. With warriors.”

Talon nodded even though Damon could not see him.

“I appreciate it.”

There was another brief silence. Then Talon added,

“And Damon…”

“Yes?”

“Please tell Willow and my parents to contact me.”

Damon’s tone changed slightly.

“Something wrong?”

Talon looked toward Diana. Her hand was resting over her still–flat stomach. The moment their eyes met, a smile appeared on both their faces.

“No.”

Talon’s voice softened.

“Something very right.”

Damon was quiet for a second. Then he laughed softly.

“I will tell them. Immediately.”

“Thank you.”

The line disconnected.

Talon slowly lowered the phone. For a few seconds, he simply stood there. Thinking. Then he looked toward Diana. She was smiling at him.

“What?” he asked.

“You sounded almost friendly with Damon.”

Talon frowned.

Diana’s smile widened.

“Whatever helps you sleep at night.”

Talon gave her a warning look, but there was no real irritation behind it. Then his expression became serious again.

He reached through the pack mind link.

“Enzo.”

His Beta answered almost immediately.

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Contact every allied pack.”

Talon walked toward the window.

“Ask them to send whatever warriors they can spare.”

A pause.

“We need additional protection around Black Howler.“,

Enzo did not hesitate.

“Understood.”

Talon’s gaze moved toward Diana again. Then his command became more specific.

“Tell them the Luna Queen is under increased threat.”

Diana raised an eyebrow at that. Talon ignored her.

“And we believe Thorne may be preparing a direct attack.”

Enzo’s voice sharpened.

“Do they need to know why?”

Talon looked at Diana. For now, they had decided to keep the pregnancy within the family and only those who absolutely needed to know.

“Not yet.”

Talon answered.

“Tell them only that intelligence suggests the Luna Queen has become Thorne’s primary target. Ask for warriors. As many as they can reasonably spare without compromising their own territories.”

Enzo cut the link.

Talon continued standing hear the window. Outside, Black Howler looked peaceful. Warriors trained. Children ran between buildings. Pack members carried on with their daily routines.
