Chapter Two Hundred Six
“They are coming.”
Diana’s voice was quiet, but there was no uncertainty in it. She stood near the window of their Alpha suite, staring toward the dark line of trees surrounding Black Howler territory. The distant howls had already faded, but their meaning remained.
The feral rogues were close.
Too close.
And this time, Diana did not believe they were only testing the borders. Behind her, Talon watched his mate carefully.
He could see the tension in her shoulders. He could feel the alertness running through the bond. Artemis had risen close to the surface as well, listening, sensing, waiting.
Talon crossed the room and stopped behind Diana.
“Yes,” he said. “They are coming.”
His hands settled gently on her shoulders.
“But not today.”
Diana turned her head slightly.
“You sound very certain.”
“I am certain about one thing.”
“What?”
Talon looked down at her.
“Today, you are going to rest.”
Diana immediately frowned.
“Talon-”
“No.”
The answer came before she could even begin arguing. Talon moved around her until he stood directly in front of her.
“Tomorrow, we will meet with Enzo. And Galvin. And the Royal Guards. We will go over every possibility. Sudden border attacks. Multiple entry points. Possible magical attacks. Evacuation routes. Everything.”
Diana crossed her arms.
“We?”

Talon hesitated for the smallest moment. Then sighed.
Yes. We.”
Diana’s eyes narrowed
“You almost said you.”
“I considered it.”
“You better reconsider quickly.”
Talon smiled faintly.
“I already did.”
Inside his mind, Fenrir huffed.
“We could lock mate inside the suite.”
Talon mentally answered immediately.
“No.”
“Bunker?”
“No.”
“Hospital?”
“Absolutely not.”
Fenrir growled.

“She needs protection.”
“She also needs not to murder us.”
Fenrir became silent. Talon considered that a victory. Diana looked back toward the window.
“I need to speak with the head omegas.”
Talon already knew where this was going.
“We need to make sure every bunker is fully stocked. Food. Water. Medicine. Blankets. Emergency clothing. Everything.”
She began counting responsibilities on her fingers.
“We also need to check whether the smaller bunkers can accommodate more pack members if one section of the territory is compromised.”
“Diana-”
“And the pups need drills.”

““Especially the small ones. If an attack begins while they are outside their homes, they need to know
exactly where to go. Which adult to follow. Which sigrials mean attack. Which signals mean evacuation. We cannot assume their parents will always be beside them.”
Talon listened quietly. Because everything she was saying was correct. Diana continued.
“The schools need designated bunker leaders. The elderly wolves should have someone assigned to help them. We need healers stationed in more than one location in case the hospital becomes inaccessible. And the food hall should prepare emergency packages that can be moved quickly.”
She turned toward Talon.
“I have a lot to do.”
“Yes”
“So I should start now.”
“No.”
Diana stared at him. Talon smiled.
“Tomorrow.”
“Talon.”
“We can do all of that tomorrow.”
He reached for her hands and gently uncrossed her arms.
“You will speak to the head omegas. I will meet with the warriors. We will organize the drills. Enzo can coordinate with the school leaders. Galvin can inspect the bunkers. And the healers can prepare emergency stations.”
Diana looked unconvinced. Talon squeezed her hands.
“But not today. Today, you rest.”
“I already rested.”
“You slept for two hours.”
“That is resting.”
“That is barely resting.”
Diana sighed.
“Talon, I am not sick.”
“I know.”
“I am not injured.”
“know”
do not need to spend the entire day in bed.”
“I did not say the entire day.”
“How long?”
Talon considered the question. Diana immediately pointed a warning finger at him.
“And do not say until tomorrow morning.”
Talon closed his mouth. Fenrir spoke inside his mind.
“We were going to say that.”
“I know.”
“We should say it anyway.”
“No.”
Talon looked back at Diana.
“A few more hours.”
Her eyebrows rose.
“A few?”
“Three.”
“One.”
“Three.”
“One.”
“Two.”
Diana narrowed her eyes. Talon smiled.
“Two is fair.”
She sighed dramatically.
“Fine.”
Talon almost looked victorious. Diana immediately added,
“But you stay with me.”
His expression changed.
“What?”

“it am being forced to rest.
“You are not being forced.”
Diana ignored him.
“… then you are resting too.”
Talon shook his head.
“I cannot.”
“You just told me we both need our strength fully restored.”
“That is different.”
“How?”
“I am not pregnant.”
Diama gave him a look.
“And you have barely slept for a week.”
Talon opened his mouth. Nothing came out. Diana smiled.
“Exactly.”
Inside his mind, Fenrir suddenly agreed with her.
“Mate is correct.”
