Chapter Two Hundred Eight
The next morning, the Black Howler food hall was unusually quiet. Not completely silent–there was still the soft scrape of utensils against plates, the occasional clink of cups and the low murmur of parents speaking to their pups–but the usual warmth of breakfast was gone.
No loud laughter. No playful teasing between warriors. No pups racing between tables until an omega gently reminded them to sit down and eat.
Everyone could feel it. The tension. The anticipation. The unease. Something was coming.
And every wolf in Black Howler knew it.
News of the increased feral activity beyond their borders had already spread through the pack. Talon had sent a pack–wide mind link the previous evening, informing everyone that the pack would begin emergency preparations first thing in the morning.
He had not told them everything. He had not told them that Diana was carrying pups. That news still belonged to their family for now.
He had not told them that Ravenna believed Thorne would become more aggressive because Diana’s strength was divided.
But Talon had told them enough. The feral rogues were gathering. Their allied packs were being attacked.
And for the foreseeable future, Black Howler would need to rely primarily on itself. That alone was enough to make the pack understand that the threat was serious.
Talon sat at the head of the long Alpha table with Diana beside him. Enzo sat on his right, while Galvin sat farther down with several senior warriors.
Ravenna had chosen to eat privately in the guest wing, claiming she needed additional rest after strengthening the protective barrier surrounding Black Howler. Talon had not argued.
If Ravenna was going to help protect Diana from Thorne’s magic, he wanted the White Witch fully rested too. Diana looked around the food hall. She could feel every emotion inside the room. Fear. Worry. Determination.
Parents kept their pups closer than usual.
Warriors ate quickly, knowing their day would be spent training and checking defenses. Omegas
whispered among themselves, already discussing food stores and emergency supplies. No one needed to be told that today would not be a normal day.
Diana placed one hand beneath the table, resting it lightly over her still–flat stomach.
Two pups. The thought still felt unreal.
Artemis immediately stirred inside her mind.
“Our babies are listening too.”
Diana smiled faintly.

hry suot hear any of this vet.”
“They feel us.”
“That is different.”
“They know something is happening.”
Diana looked toward the wolves surrounding them.
“Then they will know their pack is preparing to protect them.”
Artemis relaxed slightly.
“And we will protect the pack.”
“Yes“”
Beside her, Talon noticed the small smile on Diana’s face.
“What?”
She looked at him.
“Nothing.”
“You were talking to Artemis.”
“Maybe.”
“What did she say?”
“That our pups are apparently already listening to pack strategy.”
Talon’s expression softened instantly.
Fenrir surged forward.
“They are Alpha pups.”
Talon nearly laughed.
す
“Fenrir says they are Alpha pups, so apparently they should begin learning immediately.”
Diana shook her head.
“They are not even born and you two are already planning their Alpha education.”
“They need to be prepared.”
“For what? Crawling?”
Talon smiled.
“If they are anything like you, they will skip crawling and immediately start challenging everyone.”
Diana dyed him beneath the table.
“Behave.”
For a brief moment, the tension between them eased.
Then Enzo cleared his throat.
“Alpha.”
Talon turned.
“We received the final patrol reports this morning.”
The softness disappeared from Talon’s expression.
“What did they find?”
“Feral scents along the eastern and northern borders.”
“How many?”
“Impossible to determine exactly.”
Enzo lowered his voice.
“They are moving in groups and crossing over each other’s trails.”
Talon nodded slowly.
“Trying to make their numbers harder to read.”
“That is what we believe.”
Galvin leaned forward.
“We also found signs near the western ridge.”
Talon frowned.
“That would mean they are spreading around most of the territory.”
“Yes.”
Diana’s expression became thoughtful.
“Not attacking yet.”
“No, Luna.”
Galvin shook his head.
“They are watching.”
Artemis growled.

“Diana agreed. Or waiting. Waiting until he believed they were tired. Waiting for a weak point. Waiting for
the right moment to force his way through Ravenna’s barrier. And Ravenna was certain that, given enough time, Thorne would eventually find a way to break through the barrier. That was how powerful his black magic had become. The barrier might delay him, weaken his attacks, and give the pack precious time to prepare, but it could not keep someone like Thorne out forever.
Thorne was considered the most powerful dark witch of their generation. His magic was not merely strong–it was destructive by nature. Where other witches used their power for potions, visions, healing, or protection, Thorne’s gifts were naturally drawn toward destruction. He could manipulate the elements, poison the air, turn the earth itself into a weapon, and use his darkness to control the minds of the feral wolves he had created. And with Gideon’s curse strengthening the darkness inside him, there was no telling how much more powerful he could become.
Ravenna was his opposite.
As the White Witch of their generation, Ravenna possessed extraordinary power of her own. In some ways, her raw magical strength could even rival Thorne’s. But their magic served completely different purposes. Ravenna’s gifts were centered around life–healing, protection, purification, concealment, and creating powerful barriers capable of resisting dark magic.
Thorne’s magic, on the other hand, was meant to destroy what Ravenna’s magic tried to preserve. That was what made the coming battle so dangerous. Ravenna could build walls, while Thorne could tear them down. She could purify poison, while he could create it. She could heal wounds, while his power was designed to cause them.
