Chapter Ninety Seven
The door to the pack hospital opened again-`
And this time-
Conall entered, flanked by two older wolves.
Nera and Carl.
They looked just as worn as Kira had described.
Tired.
Injured.
Barely holding themselves upright.
Kira’s head snapped toward them.
“Aunt Nera… Uncle Carl…”
Relief flooded her face.
“They’re here,” she whispered.
Blaze immediately ran toward them, wrapping his small arms around Nera’s leg.
The reunion was quiet-
But heavy with everything they had endured.
“Healers,” Damon called calmly.
Two stepped forward at once.
“Check them.”
Nera tried to wave them off.
“We’re fine-”
“You’re not,” Willow said gently but firmly.
And something in her tone-
Made Nera stop resisting.
They were guided to separate beds.
The healer worked efficiently.
Checking wounds.
Bruises.

Breathing
After a few moments, she turned back.
They’re exhausted,” she said:”
“Dehydrated, but not as severe as Kira.”
A glance at Carl.
“Minor injuries. They’ll recover.”
A quiet breath passed through the room.
Safe.
For now.
Damon nodded once.
“Make sure they’re fed. Let them rest.”
“Yes, my king.”
He didn’t stay longer.
He didn’t need to.
Because for the first time since they arrived-
They weren’t running anymore.
Damon’s gaze lingered on Kira for a moment longer before he turned away.
“Conall.”
Conall immediately straightened.
“My king.”
Damon gestured toward the door.
“Come. Both of you.”
His eyes flickered briefly to Willow before moving back to his beta.
“We need to talk.”
Conall didn’t move.
Not right away.
His eyes drifted back to Kira-
To the way she lay on the bed, pale but breathing steadily now.

To the small pup curled beside her.
To the life-
That had just collided with his.
Damon noticed.
Of course he did.
“You’re not helping her by standing there,” Damon said, his tone not harsh–but firm.
Conall clenched his jaw slightly.
“I know.”
But his feet still didn’t move.
Damon stepped closer.
“Give her time.”
A pause.
“She’s been running for two weeks. She just found safety.”
His gaze sharpened slightly.
“Do not take that from her by rushing in as her mate.”
That landed.
Conall exhaled slowly.
“But-”
“You will talk to her later,” Damon cut in.
“When she’s stronger.”
“When she’s ready.”
A beat.
“And when she chooses to hear you.”
Conall’s shoulders dropped slightly.
Because he knew-
Damon was right.
Reluctantly-
He nodded.

Yes my king.”
His eyes flickered one last time toward Kira-
Soft.
Uncertain.
Then he turned.
Following Damon and Willow out of the room.
Back to Damon’s Office
The walk back felt different this time.
Quieter.
Heavier.
Not just because of what they had learned-
But because everything was shifting.
When they reached the office, Damon pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Willow followed.
Conall entered last-
Closing the door behind them.
For a moment-
No one spoke.
Then Damon turned-
Facing both of them.
“What Kira told us…”
His voice was calm-
But carried weight.
“…changes things.”
Conall nodded.
“That male-Vanessa’s mate-”
“He’s dangerous.”
“And calculated,” Damon added.

Willow crossed her arms slightly.”
“And desperate enough to silence anyone who knows too much.”
Silence settled again.
Strategic.
Focused.
Damon exhaled slowly.
“We need to contact Talon.”
His eyes flickered briefly to Willow.
Damon stood a few steps away from her, the tension in the room ho longer sharp-but still present, lingering between them like something unfinished.
“I need to contact your brother, my mate.”
Damon spoke more carefully now-measured, controlled.
“I know there are… a lot of things we still need to figure out.”
A brief pause.
His eyes held hers-not demanding this time, not forcing.
Just searching.
“But before I call him…”
Another breath.
“I need to know something.”
Willow didn’t look away.
“Are you going to ask him to come for you?”
The question wasn’t sharp.
It wasn’t angry.
It was… uncertain.
“I don’t want that,” Damon admitted quietly.
There was no pride in it.
No command.
“I want you here.”
A step closer-but still careful not to invade her space.

“Beside me.”
“His voice lowered.
“To lead this pack… with me:
A pause.
“I know I have to earn your trust.”
“And your forgiveness.”
He didn’t try to touch her.
Didn’t try to soften it with charm.
Just truth.
Willow held his gaze for a long moment.
Then finally-
She spoke.
“I will not ask Talon to come get me.”
Her voice was steady.
Clear.
“I think… I can do a lot of good if I stay here.”
A faint shift in her expression-
Something thoughtful.
Something stronger.
“But that does not mean I’ve forgiven you, Damon.”
