Ottilie checked her phone and saw that twenty thousand had been deposited into her account.
It had been transferred directly via an ATM.
The date of the transaction matched the days she had been detained.
Ottilie had no idea who sent it.
But remembering that Yves was the only one who had hired a lawyer to see her and tried to bail her out, she realized it must be him.
She called him immediately.
He picked up on the first ring. "Tilly, you're out?"
"I got out yesterday. I reached out as soon as I bought a new phone."
"How are you feeling? Did they treat you terribly?"
"I'm fine. It wasn't too bad. Did you transfer twenty thousand into my account?"
"I figured you might need the money, so I sent it over."
A knot formed in Ottilie's throat.
It took her a moment to swallow the overwhelming surge of emotion.
"Where are you? Let's meet up and grab something to eat."
"I can't see you right now..."
Before Yves could finish, a woman's voice echoed in the background.
"Bed 3, Yves Walden, time for your IV drip."
Yves responded to the nurse.
"Tilly, I'm a little tied up. I'll call you back."
"Take your time," Ottilie replied. "I'll wait."
Yves didn't hang up. Once he was settled, Ottilie finally spoke. "You're in the hospital."
"I was hit by a car a few days ago. Just some scrapes."
"Which hospital?"
Yves gave her the address.
Ottilie walked out of her room and looked at Yvonne. "I need a car."
Yvonne nodded. "You have access to any car in the garage, Ms. Sewell."
Yorath's garage looked like a spaceship out of a sci-fi movie—luxurious and brimming with high-tech machinery.
Amidst the fleet of luxury vehicles, Ottilie instantly spotted a very unassuming old Volkswagen Jetta.
