Back when Ottilie was blinded by love, she believed love could conquer anything.
As long as Yorath loved her, they could get married and be together.
They would live their own lives, and if they couldn't get along with his family, they just wouldn't see them.
Only after waking up to reality did she realize how laughably naive she had been.
Yorath could love anyone, but he would never love her.
Ottilie knew they had deliberately let her hear that.
It was a warning to stay in her lane and stop dreaming.
She was meant to be a hidden plaything forever.
She stared at the doorknob she was clutching, took a long time to look away, and then closed the door.
In the restroom, she splashed water on her face.
She looked at her youthful reflection in the mirror.
The entertainment industry fed on youth, and hers was slipping away.
She needed to break free from Yorath as soon as possible and secure her footing in showbiz.
Leaning against the vanity, she dialed Lachlan Schmidt.
"Mr. Schmidt, what do I need to prepare for Friday?"
"You don't need to prepare a thing. The production crew will provide all the necessities. All you need to do is show up. Manage your schedule carefully—this is a one-time opportunity, and the crew won't wait for anyone."
"Understood."
Ottilie hung up, crossed her arms, and let out a deep breath, looking up at the ceiling.
A knock sounded at the door.
When Ottilie walked out, she saw Yorath standing there.
"Why did you take so long?"
"I didn't want to interrupt your conversation."
"You don't need to avoid us."
"I think it's better if I do," Ottilie said with a small smile, keeping her head down as she walked past him.
"You hardly ate anything. Let's go back and get you some food."
"Okay."
This was exactly what she liked about Yorath.
No mind games.
He was blatantly clear about not loving her.
It saved her the trouble of putting on a fake display of affection.
