They fooled around for a while before Merrick finally eased up. “You think this is funny?”
“It’s not funny. I’m sorry.” The teary-eyed look only made Gillian even more fun to tease.
“You? Sorry?” Merrick’s voice dropped low. “It’s just a chain, right? An engagement chain. Your second beastmate. I’m not enough for you? You’ve already had me, and now you want another male in your bed?”
“I didn’t! You’re twisting my words. Mmph-”
Her protest got cut off fast. Merrick’s mouth had moved on, and he was busy elsewhere.
Gillian was down to breathless, broken begging soon after. “I don’t like him. He’s nothing like you. Merrick, you’re the best.”
“Gillian, you’ve still got breath to talk. Guess I’m not working hard enough.” Merrick’s voice came out low and rough.
Not working hard enough? Does the bed need to snap in half first? My back has to give out?
Gillian snapped at him, “Merrick, don’t you dare-mmph.”
The sound got swallowed. She switched tactics fast, her voice going soft and pleading. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Merrick paused. “Sorry for what?”
“Sorry for…” She trailed off, her mind blank.
What am I even sorry for? I don’t know.
“Guess I’m still not working hard enough.” Merrick’s tone was pure dark promise.
There was nothing more Gillian could say.

Elara heard that Merrick had brought Gillian back to the Griffin Warship and headed straight
over.
But Adrian caught her arm before she got far. “Elara, please. Take a look at this one first. He’s barely hanging on.”

Elara glanced at Tristan’s bruised face and her eye twitched. “Which female scratched him up like this?”
“If it were a female, I wouldn’t be here.” Adrian shook his head. “I can’t explain right now. Just treat the heat powder.”
He was ready for the whole mess to be over, but Elara just waved a hand. “Then don’t get in my way. The simplest fix is to put him in Gillian’s bed. They’ve got an engagement. Let her sleep with him, file for a second beastmate certificate afterward, and it’s done.”
Adrian stared at her. “Captain Sterling, Commander Cole is the one who beat his face in. You want to deliver him to Mrs. Cole’s bed? Do you want this whole warship to go up in flames?”
Elara blinked. “He hit him that hard?”
Tristan actually fell for Gillian?
Well. At least the kid has taste.
Gillian’s amazing. Of course, people want her. That’s just how it works.
Most females on the Outer Planet didn’t tie themselves down to one beastmate. Nobody knew when the taint would surge, so people grabbed what pleasure they could.
A handful of wealthy, powerful females didn’t even bother with marriage certificates. The Interstellar Alliance guaranteed benefits for their children no matter what, and the father was legally required to provide for them. No strings. Stay if it worked, leave if it didn’t.
Elara’s thoughts drifted to the cyan griffin rooted in her own primal core, and her expression soured.
This damn core bond. Some idiot invented it, and now it chains a female to one male. Completely against
nature.
She pulled her gaze off Tristan.
Still, with Merrick’s jealousy burning that hot, this could actually kill someone.
She poked Tristan’s cheek with her finger, testing the damage.
Don’t let the little fox get played to death.
His fox eyes, even shut, still had a sharp, striking shape, and the soft curls and pretty face only made the whole sight even more irritating.

Going by Gillian’s usual taste, she should’ve gone for this type.
Elara caught the flicker of movement under his eyelids.
Oh, he’s awake. Just lying there like life’s already over. Sulking, huh?
