Merrick could see exactly what was running through her. Both her sisters were torn apart, and if she broke down now, all three of them were done for.

“I’m fine, Merrick.” She forced her eyes shut and shoved the pain down. He was right. She couldn’t break.

The white psionic power flickered at her fingertips, and she laid it gently over Elara’s wounds, sealing the blood that was still pouring out.

The healing energy wrapped around Elara’s body like soft light, and after a long moment, her lashes stirred and her eyes opened.

The second her gaze locked onto Gillian’s face, her eyes widened sharply. The terror in them was almost tangible.

She stared at Gillian with raw disbelief, none of the usual warmth she had for her sister anywhere in her expression.

That look cut straight through Gillian, cold and sharp, like Elara was trying to see straight into her soul and figure out if the person in front of her was real.

“Elara, it’s me. It’s Gillian.” Gillian kept her voice low and steady and wrapped her hand around Elara’s limp, numb fingers, pushing warmth through the contact.

Her healing psionic power spread through their clasped hands, and the small wounds along Elara’s arm closed over in seconds. The color slowly crept back into her skin.

Elara’s guard finally dropped, and her voice caught. “It’s really you, Gillian.”

“You’re safe now. All of you are. No one’s hurting you again.” Gillian saw she was stable and turned to work on Sylas and Tristan.

Elara shook her head, trying to clear it, and the numbness was finally fading. Her eyes swept the room and found Freya watching her with a look of raw grief.

They traded a long glance. Two days ago, the four of them had been toys in someone else’s hands, and both top-tier wrist terminals had been ripped from them.

The other two crimson hides must have sensed their companion had been destroyed, because they started thrashing. They slammed against the roots holding them and snapped several

The flower beasts yelped and lost their grip.

Lily didn’t hesitate. Her giant root whipped through the air and smashed one of the crimson hides into the far wall, the metal buckling on impact before the thing dropped to the floor.

Gillian was already moving. She thrust both hands forward, and a thread of white-gold flame flickered from her fingertips, dancing like candlelight. With a flick of her wrist, it caught the crimson hide and spread fast, like fire eating through paper.

The hide burned to ash in seconds, and Sylas collapsed out of it.

Merrick called out, “Gillian.”

The second crimson hide took Merrick’s blade straight across its body and shrieked. He kicked it toward Gillian, and she burned it the same way and pulled Tristan free.

Sylas and Tristan were wrecked, faces drained white, breaths shallow and uneven.

“Dad Sylas, are you okay?” Lily’s roots scooped Sylas up and laid him on a metal bed. She paused and looked at Tristan, then remembered he’d saved Camilla and hauled him onto a bed too.

Gillian caught the move and felt a swell of warmth. Lily was sharp and fast and didn’t waste

time.

She leaned over both of them and checked their vitals. They were in slightly better shape than Elara had been.

She poured her healing psionic power into them, and the male beastmen’s bodies, built tougher, responded fast. Sylas and Tristan were awake almost immediately.

“You two okay? Can you hold on?” Gillian’s voice was tight with worry.

Tristan hadn’t expected her face to be the first thing he saw. He fought through the pain and forced out a thin smile. “Not dying,” he said.
