The pear blossom stone’s petals burst fully open, as if it had suffered from extreme thirst for a very long time.
Gillian poured more of the gray liquid. Gradually, the blossoms bloomed plump and full. The whole branch looked exactly like a cluster of fresh pear blossoms in full bloom.
Suddenly, a weight settled in Gillian’s palm. A tiny cutting of the blossom dropped down into her hand.
This small piece was far purer than the full carved branch-it was the concentrated essence.
It glowed crystal clear, gave off a faint sweet fragrance, and hummed with soft white light.
Gillian lifted it up and studied it closely. “What is this?”
The main branch, having drunk its fill, retreated back into the stone cave.
It turned rigid the moment it finished its task, and fine cracks spread all over its surface.
Lily stretched out a root tendril. The light wind stirred by her movement shattered the whole branch into fine dust on the spot.
The change happened in the blink of an eye, catching everyone completely off guard.
“Be careful, Gillian!” Elara cried out sharply, her eyes locked tightly on the ground right beneath Gillian’s feet.
A thin layer of pale fog wrapped around every stone carving, and every flower seemed to come alive.
The mist appeared out of nowhere with no warning at all.
Gillian said shakily, “Elara, I can’t move my legs.”
The fog swirled together and formed a strange vortex that clashed sharply with the surrounding environment.
Panic rose sharply inside Elara.
Elara shouted, “Grab my hand, Gillian. If we get pulled into the portal, we’ll go together.”
She reached out without hesitation, hoping to catch Gillian and stop her from being dragged

away.
The second her fingers latched onto Gillian’s wrist, a powerful force yanked Gillian downward.
“Mom, hold on tight.” Lily reacted instantly. Her white root tendrils coiled and wrapped tightly around Gillian’s waist, clinging firmly to her body.
Gillian felt a violent pull from below. Sharp weightlessness threw her completely off balance.
She struggled to steady herself, but the force was far too strong for her to resist.
Gillian called out, “Elara, Lily, this portal only takes one person at a time…….”
At the same time, Maddox stretched out his hand to grab Gillian’s shoulder. His fingers closed on nothing but empty air.
In the next instant, Gillian’s figure faded like thin mist and vanished without a trace.
Lily and Elara could only stare helplessly at the empty spot.
Elara shouted, “Gillian!”
Lily cried, “Mom!”
Maddox spoke in a low tone, full of clear understanding and quiet regret, “The small cutting she picked up was the portal key. That stone blossom teleported her away.”
Elara dropped to her knees at once and began searching among the carved blossoms.
She urged, “Maddox, help me look. Find any more pear blossom stones.”
Watching her fluster like this, a dull ache stirred inside Maddox’s chest before he could think it through.
He acted on pure instinct and pulled her straight into his arms.
Maddox spotted raw taint eating away at part of her metal boots, and his expression turned icy cold.
He grew irritated by this unfamiliar rush of emotion, and his voice rose sharply.
Maddox snapped, “Elara, have you thrown all your usual self-control out the window?”
He stared at her in confusion, unable to understand why she was acting so recklessly.

Maddox said, “We already searched every inch carefully. Only one pear blossom stone remained, and it just used its power to send Gillian through the portal. Looking again right now is nothing but a waste of time.”
