Chapter 304 Used the Purge as Bait
With Lily confirming its nature, Gillian and Elara both knew the plant was truly alive.

Elara asked, “Gillian, is it stuck tight down there? Should we yank it out forcefully, or wait until Commander Cole brings the pear blossom stone?”
She watched Gillian fail to pull it free. She wove her blue psionic power into thin, threadlike strands and sent them winding down along the root.
The plant was extremely sensitive. It shrank back the instant her power touched the base, sealing itself completely out of sight.
No trace of its roots remained. It was as if the little creature could sense incoming danger.
Elara and Gillian exchanged a silent look. This pear blossom stone possessed an astonishing level of awareness.
Elara pulled Gillian one step backward. The whole situation was far stranger than she had expected.
She turned toward Lily with a thoughtful gaze. “Lily, what do you make of this thing?”
Elara was convinced it had some connection to flower beasts. It might even be an undeveloped breed of flower beast.
Gillian guessed, “Could it be another flower beast that never finished evolving?”
Lily quickly proved her wrong.
She stretched out a root tendril to make contact. The pear blossom stone paid no attention to her friendly gesture at all.
Lily pulled her root back. “Mom, it doesn’t smell like any flower beast I know.”
This rough stone could never compare to her kind.
Elara turned to Maddox, who had stayed quiet the whole time. “Maddox, do you have any theories?”
Maddox shook his head. He had never seen anything like this before.
Gillian frowned and ran through every possible plan in her mind.

She scooped up a handful of murky black water and poured it gently over the stone.

The root shrank even tighter. The flower shuddered violently and shook all the taint liquid off its petals.
It clearly hated the taint fluid.
Elara muttered, “It hates raw taint, so why is it growing submerged in this pool? I assumed it was an aquatic plant.”
Elara’s words sparked a new thought in Gillian’s mind.
Gillian’s eyes lit up. “Elara, I get it now. Just like flower beasts, it cannot stand taint. This entire taint pool was built to trap the pear blossom stone.”
Elara agreed with her reasoning. Unfortunately, the blossom had locked itself tight after being disturbed. They could not coax it out.
Since the plant was so intelligent, Elara gathered ice energy in her palm. She stared firmly at the pear blossom stone, mixing kindness with threat.
Elara warned, “If you refuse to come out, I will freeze you solid along with this whole pool.”
The pear blossom stone shook violently as if it truly understood the threat. Before anyone could celebrate, the entire plant shrank deep into the white jade slab.
Only an empty hollow remained, identical to the other missing blossom holes, as if mocking their failed attempt.
Elara stared at the hollow with frustration. “Gillian, I swear it did not run away out of fear. It was laughing at us.
“This flower is far too uncanny. We might as well destroy the whole site.”
Gillian shook her head. “If this pool really holds an interdimensional portal, it would be such a waste to smash it to pieces.”
She had originally planned to destroy everything here. Once she saw the exquisite ancient design, she could not bring herself to ruin it.
Gillian said, “If we can turn it to our advantage, that would be perfect. We can dig up the pool, move the portal, and haul away all these precious ores to pay down our massive debts.”
Elara knew exactly how short of money the 9th Legion always was. That was why she had flown into such a rage when Merrick tricked Gillian into marriage.
