Norris’ eyes darted past the black griffin toward the center of the pool. The water rippled faintly. He had jammed his wrist terminal into the teleport opening. A red light on the device blinked on and off nonstop.

At that exact moment, every crimson hide across the Elemental Cities received a live stream invitation.

They opened the broadcast at once. Within seconds, they shared the feed to the busiest public plazas, storefronts, and high-traffic StarNet pages.

In less than five minutes, the entire Outer Planet was watching this live broadcast.

The 9th Legion outpost stationed in the Elemental Cities also pulled up the stream. Their officers tried to shut it down, only to find they had no power to cut the signal. They could only send an urgent request back to the main 9th Legion command.

This live stream exploded across StarNet like a sudden thunderclap.

Only two weeks earlier, Merrick had wiped out the Grayson family in Goldspine City. Now, everyone wondered what fresh violence he had gotten himself into this time.

[Is that really Black Rick? What is he doing? Is he going to kill that man?]

[This has to be staged. They’re just putting on an act.]

[Oh my god, is that a phoenix beastman? All its feathers are torn out, and its wings are broken. This is far too brutal and cruel.]

The footage was brutally graphic.

[Phoenixkin belong to Capital Planet. What is Black Rick planning to do? Is he really going to torture this phoenix to death?]

[Have you all seen what’s behind Black Rick?]

[Whoa, look at all those precious ores. Just one chunk would buy a ship ticket straight to Capital Planet.]

What Merrick and Norris said next silenced all the beastmen watching the StarNet livestream.

No one had ever imagined the leader of the 9th Legion could be a cold-blooded killer.

If this was his true nature, would he genuinely protect the people of the Outer Planet?

On screen, Merrick’s face was ice-cold. Every watching beastman believed he would kill Norris without hesitation.

One comment spread quickly through the crowd. “Black Rick is a murderer. How can a man like him hold the title of commander?”

The crowd erupted into chaos.

Lucian and Finn also saw the live stream. They immediately sent word to Wasteland City, only to be told Merrick’s group was deep at the taint source.

Luckily, Freya still had access to the military channel on her wrist terminal.

The call connected quickly.

Lucian looked at Freya’s pale face and felt a sharp twinge of concern. Still, he did not dare waste a single second.

Lucian said urgently, “Freya, where is Commander Cole? Why is every corner of the Elemental Cities streaming his actions live? Can you reach him?”

Freya was stunned by the breaking news. When she pulled up the footage of Merrick overpowering Norris, panic shot through her.

She said, “How did this happen? I will contact Commander Cole right away.”

Gillian called out, “Freya? Merrick? Elara? Lily?”

She sighed.

The wrist terminal had no signal at all.

Gillian gave up trying to reach the others through her device and studied her surroundings carefully.

After stepping through the portal, she had not wandered aimlessly. Merrick was on his way with the pear blossom stones. If she waited here for thirty minutes, her allies would catch up.

The quiet tunnel did not feel frightening. It felt strangely romantic.

The ceiling was covered with stars that looked close enough to touch. No matter how far she stretched her psionic power, though, she could not reach the top of the passage.

She had never laid eyes on such a breathtaking sight before.

After exploring the area and finding no new clues, Gillian looked down at the pear blossom stone in her palm.
