Meredith clenched her fists, the memories of the past surfacing uncontrollably in her mind.
When he learned she was suspected of stealing company secrets, the man she called her father looked at her with an indifference usually reserved for trash.
Not only did he fail to defend her with a single word, but he also slapped her viciously.
That slap struck more than just her face; it shattered all her reliance and trust in her father.
His look of disgust and resentment still clung to her, chilling her to the bone far more than a stranger's apathy.
"I have no daughter like you."
"You absolute disgrace."
Those vicious curses burned into her heart like a branding iron, still echoing in her ears and agonizing her nerves.
Back when she was falsely accused of stealing company secrets, both her brother Marcus and everyone else firmly pinned the blame on her.
As the head of the Miller family, her father was her only lifeline.
She had humbly hoped he would uphold justice and pull her out of the mess. Instead, his appearance personally severed that last shred of hope, pushing her into the abyss.
"Marcus, get the hell out here!"
Milo roared at the VIP ward area, his voice echoing down the empty hallway.
The ward door remained tightly shut. Marcus had clearly decided to be a coward, pushing Mavis out as a human shield.
"Milo, this is a hospital. Please behave," Mavis frowned, putting on a strictly professional attitude to warn him. "If you keep causing a scene, don't blame me for having the guards throw you out."
As soon as she finished, a row of guards in black suits stepped forward instantly, their gazes fierce as they formed a human wall.
Seeing this tense standoff, Julian couldn't help but furrow his brow, cold sweat seeping into his palms. He had gone to great lengths to contact the legendary Azure Healer. If they couldn't even get through the door, wouldn't all his planning be for nothing?
"Oh, this is quite the lively scene."
A cool, mocking voice pierced through the stagnant air.
"Phoebe, are you joking?" Meredith, who had been silent, suddenly stepped forward with a sharp gaze. "I am a member of the Miller family, here to visit my own grandfather with my friend. How is that any of your business?"
Phoebe was rendered speechless. Her face instantly turned pale as she instinctively clung tightly to Julian's arm, acting wronged. "Julian, I was just worried Phoenix might offend the Miller family. I was just giving a kind reminder... I didn't mean to blame her."
"Don't be afraid, Phoebe. With me here, Phoenix can't make any trouble," Julian patted her hand to comfort her, then glared fiercely at Phoenix. "We brought the healer today to treat Gideon. As long as he recovers, the relationship between the Prescott and Miller families will be unbreakable."
"Phoenix, you'd better not mess this up."
"Oh? You brought a healer. Then hurry up and save him," Phoenix raised an eyebrow, her eyes full of mockery. "What's wrong? Can't get in, or... they won't even let you in?"
Those words struck like a slap across Julian's face. His pupils contracted sharply, a mix of shame and anger bubbling inside him.
He immediately turned to Milo, speaking urgently. "Milo, we went through so much trouble to invite the Azure Healer. Are we really just going to be blocked outside? If the Miller family doesn't appreciate this, I'll have no choice but to leave with him."
"Don't rush, Julian." Milo quickly reassured him. Then, he took a step forward, his gaze suddenly turning fierce. "I'm walking through that door today, and let's see who dares to stop me."
With that, Milo forcefully shoved past Mavis, who was blocking the way, and tried to barge in.
