"Relax," Mavis said, lifting a water-slicked arm to admire her luminous skin. Her tone dripped with absolute arrogance. "With The Osborne Family's massive capital, they don't have the luxury of turning us down. Besides... don't I still hold the trump card they care about the most?"
She let out a soft laugh. "Even if they fight it, tomorrow they'll have no choice but to bow to me."
"Don't be so confident. Carelessness gets you killed," Barrett warned coldly. "Just remember, if this negotiation fails, The Osborne Family will make you wish you were dead."
The smile vanished from Mavis's eyes, replaced by a venomous glare. "Barrett, you don't need to keep threatening me. If I actually lose this game, you won't even have to lift a finger. I'll jump into the ocean myself."
She had poured her blood, sweat, and tears into this scheme.
Bribing the insiders, deploying the dark web's resources, tracking Meredith's schedule, and executing the kidnapping... every single step was flawlessly calculated. With Meredith's life in her hands, how could she possibly lose?
The next day.
Inside the top-floor conference room of The Miller Group, the atmosphere was suffocating.
Aside from Thaddeus, Phoenix was also present. But what truly shocked the executives was the seating arrangement. For a negotiation that would determine the company's survival, Phoenix was seated at the head of the table, while Thaddeus was relegated to the second seat.
The arrangement sent ripples of unease through the room.
At a life-and-death moment, they were letting an outsider take full control? It was a reckless gamble with the company's future. Facing the aggressive Osborne Family from Highcrest with such an absurd setup felt like corporate suicide.
"Mr. Miller, relax," Phoenix said, leaning back in her leather chair with the casual grace of someone enjoying afternoon tea in her own garden.
She glanced at Thaddeus, whose brows were locked in a tight knot, and chuckled. "It's just a routine negotiation. There's no need to act like we're going to war. Besides... we have all the leverage. What are you so worried about?"
Thaddeus swallowed his rising temper and lowered his voice. "Miss Prescott, that's easy for you to say. If these talks collapse, my company takes the hit! You're an outsider. You can just walk away unharmed."
He ground his teeth. "I really don't understand what my father was thinking, handing our survival over to you..."
"Mr. Miller, I finally understand why the patriarch only gave you the title of CEO but kept the actual power for himself," Phoenix sighed, mercilessly jabbing at his sore spot. "Your vision is simply too narrow."
