Looking at Tristan suddenly springing out of nowhere, Emma felt a massive headache coming on.
"Emma, the Lockwood family will give you a proper explanation for this."
Tristan shielded Gillian tightly. A moment later, Uncle Raymond's car pulled up as well.
"Everyone, stand down."
Uncle Raymond fixed his gaze on Emma, then surveyed the arrested men.
"By tomorrow morning, not a single one of these outsiders will be on this island."
Hearing his underlying warning, Emma let out a faint smile. "Fine. I'd appreciate the peace and quiet."
She turned and walked away, dragging a stunned Sylvia along with her.
Sylvia, who had been completely mesmerized by the drama, finally snapped out of it. "You're just letting them go?"
"What else should I do? Even if I had Gillian thrown in a cell, Uncle Raymond could make all the evidence vanish by morning. I might as well trade this in for a few days of actual vacation."
Emma had never viewed Chloe as a genuine threat. As for Dominic, he was vicious but lacked the brains to pull anything off. There was nothing to fear.
"You're exactly the same. You were always too soft-hearted in school."
Sylvia sighed heavily. Back then, her feelings toward Emma had been incredibly complicated.
She had thought Emma was a naive, fake saint, yet inexplicably blessed with luck, always surrounded by people who protected her.
Now, all these years later, Sylvia finally understood. Emma just possessed an undeniable magnetism that made people naturally want to be on her side.
"It has nothing to do with being soft-hearted. It's just simple risk assessment."
Sylvia opened her mouth to argue, but suddenly stopped dead in her tracks.
Just ahead, Carter was standing beneath the dappled shadows of a tree, wearing a sleek trench coat. Even from a distance, with his expression obscured by the moonlight, his overwhelming aura was palpable.
"I'm heading back."
Sylvia tactfully scurried away. Emma nodded and walked toward Carter with a raised brow. "What are you doing out here?"
"Security just notified me."
Under the moonlight, their intertwined shadows stretched long and inseparable across the pavement.
"Even if you despise Emma, you cannot resort to these kinds of gutter tactics."
Uncle Raymond's tone was uncharacteristically harsh as he reprimanded Gillian.
Gillian instantly played the victim, tears welling in her eyes as she nodded frantically. "I know, Uncle Raymond. I was just so angry... I wanted to teach her a lesson. Especially with how my mother is right now..."
She looked up with an incredibly pathetic expression. "Please don't tell Aunt Pamela about tonight. I'm so scared she'll be disappointed in me."
"Fine. I won't tell her. But you need to remember something. No matter what grudge you hold against Emma, she is currently the wife of the Harrington family. You will not drag our name through the mud."
Gillian nodded obediently. But the second she turned away, her eyes darkened into a venomous glare.
If that's how it is, I just need to make sure she gets kicked out of the Harrington family.
Gillian pulled out her phone and dialed Tobias.
"You mentioned you dug up some dirt on what she was doing abroad? I think it's time we put it to good use."
