A look of absolute certainty flashed in Gavin's eyes.
Emma took a sip of her juice, looking over with a light laugh.
"That does sound like a tempting offer, but Gavin, this isn't our first day knowing each other, is it?"
She tilted her head slightly, her gaze carrying a profound meaning.
Gavin's expression turned somber.
People in their circle had a general idea of what kind of person Emma was. As someone who used to be close to the Lockwoods, he naturally knew more than most.
She was someone who would never sacrifice her friends for the sake of profit.
"I even go out of my way to protect Phoebe Sterling, let alone Jocelyn."
Emma raised an eyebrow. Back when Sylvia Moore and her crew were bullying Phoebe, they often failed precisely because of Emma's interference.
Sylvia had used a lot of connections to get to her, demanding she stay out of Phoebe's business, but Emma had never backed down.
Because of that, she had protected Phoebe year after year.
"Gavin, I know exactly what kind of person you are, too."
Emma's eyes narrowed slightly. Her tone was still cheerful, but it carried a distinct edge of warning.
Owen York was a piece of trash, and Gavin was only marginally better.
His sudden claim that he wanted to pursue Jocelyn was solely because she had stomped on the York family's pride. Gavin was just bitter and looking for a way to get back at her.
"What exactly do you mean by that, Emma?"
A chill crept into Gavin's gaze, but this time, Emma simply burst into laughter.
He had barely frowned when Carter's voice suddenly rang out.
"Do I need to remind you of Emma's current status?"
Carter's overwhelming presence hit him instantly, causing Gavin's expression to turn grim.
"If the Yorks didn't teach you how to address another man's wife, I wouldn't mind doing the honors."
Carter took a seat next to Emma, raising a deadpan eyebrow at Gavin. A second later, Gavin received a call from an employee at his company.
