Chapter Two Hundred

The second pup vanished with it. The mist dissolved into nothing. Diana froze.

“No.”

She immediately looked at the healer.

“No, wait.”

The healer removed her hands from Diana’s stomach. Diana sat up slightly.

“I want to see them again.”

Talon immediately nodded.

“Yes.”

He looked toward the healer.

“Do it again.”

The healer smiled apologetically.

“I cannot, Alpha.”

Talon frowned.

“What do you mean, you cannot?”

“The ritual cannot be repeated twice in such a short period.”

“Why?”

“Because it requires energy.”

The healer gestured toward Diana.

“Not only from me.”

Diana’s expression became serious.

“From the pups?”

“Yes.”

The healer nodded.

“It places a small strain on unborn pups because I am temporarily drawing out part of their life energy so it can form an image.”

Talon immediately shook his head.

“Then absolutely not.”

Diana looked at him.

“You just asked her to do it again.”

“That was before she said it affects the pups.”

Fenrir agreed instantly.

“No more.”

Artemis reluctantly agreed too.

“They need their strength.”

Diana sighed.

“I only wanted to see them again.”

Talon leaned over and kissed her forehead.

“We will.”

She looked at him.

“In a few months.”

A smile slowly returned to her face.

“You are right.”

The healer’s expression became warm.

“And when that happens, Alpha and Luna…”

She paused deliberately.

“…you will be meeting two healthy pups.”

Talon blinked. Diana looked toward her. The healer smiled broadly now.

“Congratulations.”

“You are not carrying one pup.”

She lifted two fingers.

“You are carrying two.”

Diana stared at her. Twins. Two pups. Her hand immediately moved toward her stomach. Talon’s hand covered hers. For several seconds, neither spoke. Then Talon smiled. Not the confident smile of an Alpha King. Not the dangerous smile of a warrior preparing for battle. This one was pure joy.

“We are having two pups.”

Diana laughed softly.

“Talon leaned down and kissed her. Slowly. Tenderly. When he pulled away, his forehead rested against

hers.

“Thank you.”

Diana frowned.

“For what?”

“For this.”

His hand remained over her stomach.

“For them.”

Diana’s expression softened.

“You helped.”

Talon laughed. Fenrir immediately said,

“We helped a lot.”

Diana shook her head.

“What is Fenrir saying?”

“You do not want to know.”

“I probably do not.”

The healer laughed softly.

“The pack will rejoice when they hear the news.”

That made Talon straighten. He looked toward Diana.

“How do you want to tell them?”

Diana looked thoughtful. Talon’s excitement was obvious.

“We could hold a celebration.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“A celebration?”

“Yes.”

“A feast.”

“Talon.”

“Invite the entire pack.”

“My love-”

“We can decorate the pack house.”

Diana laughed.

“Are you planning a pup announcement or another mating ceremony?”

Talon ignored the teasing/

“The Royal Pack should celebrate.”

“They will.”

“When?”

Diana placed her hand over his.

“Not yet.”

Talon paused. Her voice softened.

“I do not want to tell anyone yet.”

Concern immediately entered his expression.

“Why?”

“Nothing bad.”

She smiled.

“I just…”

Diana looked down toward their joined hands resting over her stomach.

“I want this moment for us.”

Her voice grew quieter.

“For you. For me. For Artemis and Fenrir. For our pups.”

She looked into his eyes.

“We have spent so much time being the Alpha King and Luna Queen. Fighting. Planning. Protecting everyone. Thinking about Thorne. The curse. The packs. The future.”

She took a slow breath.

“I want a little time where this does not belong to the Royal Pack. Where they are not heirs. Where everyone is not talking about the next generation of the Silver Wolf.”

Diana smiled.

“I want them to simply be our babies.”

Talon’s expression softened immediately.

“Our little family.”

“Yes.”

“For just a little while.”

He lifted her hand and kissed her fingers.

“If that is what you want, my love…”

He smiled.

“Then that is exactly what we will do.”

“No celebration yet?”

“No celebration.”

“No pack-wide mindlink?”

“Not until you are ready.”

Diana leaned forward and kissed him gently.

“Thank you.”

“You never need to thank me for giving you what you want.”

Inside Talon’s mind, Fenrir immediately corrected him.

“That is a lie.”

Talon frowned mentally.

“What?”

“Sometimes mate wants to fight twenty ferals alone.”

“That is different.”

“She still wants it.”

Talon ignored his wolf. The healer cleared her throat.

“Now that the excitement has settled slightly…

Talon turned toward her immediately.

“What do we need to do?”

His Alpha voice returned. Diana sighed. There he was. The overly protective father again. The healer smiled.

“For now, the Luna needs rest.”

Talon nudded instantly.

“How much?”

Diana groaned.

“Talon.”

“What?”

“Do not start scheduling my sleep.”

“I was asking a medical question.”

“You were preparing to imprison me in bed.”

“I would never imprison you.”

Fenrir muttered,

“We could try.”

Talon ignored him.

The healer continued.

“The pups appear strong. Both of them.”

Diana visibly relaxed.

“And Diana?”

The healer looked at Talon.

“The Luna is healthy.”

Talon exhaled.

“But…”

His eyes narrowed immediately.

“There is always a but.”

Diana laughed softly. The healer continued.

“Carrying two pups requires more energy than carrying one.”

Diana’s hand returned to her stomach.

“Especially for Artemis.”

Talon frowned.

“Why especially Artemis?”

“Because her wolf will instinctively prioritize the pups.”

The healer explained carefully.

“She will protect them constantly. Monitor them. Feed them with her energy. And if Luna is injured or poisoned…”

The healer’s expression became serious

“…Artemis will protect the pups first.”

Talon did not like hearing that. Not at all.

“So Diana gets whatever energy remains.”

“Yes.”

Diana frowned.

“That does not seem fair to Artemis either.”

The healer nodded.

“It is not a conscious choice. It is instinct. Mother wolves protect their pups. And a Silver Wolf’s instinct appears to be even stronger.”

Inside Diana’s mind, Artemis immediately bristled.

“I can take care of them.”

Diana smiled inwardly.

“I know.”

“I am strong.”

“You are.”

“I can protect our pups and you.”

“I know.”

Artemis paced proudly through their shared mind.

“I am the Silver Wolf.”

“Yes.”

“I am stronger than normal wolves.”

“Yes.”

“I can protect everyone.”

Diana laughed gently.

“You sound offended.”

“I am. The healer thinks I will struggle.”

“She did not say that.”

“She implied it.”

Diana softened.

“Artemis.”

Her wolf stopped.

“I know how strong you are. But the healer is right about one thing.”

“What?”

“Carrying two pups will take more energy.”

Artemis became quiet.

“You do not have to prove your strength by exhausting yourself.”

Diana continued.

“We protect them together. You and me. And Talon and Fenrir.”

Artemis glanced toward the bond connecting them to their mates.

“I suppose they can help.”

Diana laughed.

“Very generous of you.”

Outside their shared mind, Fenrir suddenly pushed through the mate bond strongly enough that both Diana and Artemis felt him.

“Do not worry.”

His voice carried warmth and determination.

“I am strong too.”

Artemis immediately became attentive. Fenrir continued.

“I will protect our pups. Our mate. And you.”

Artemis’s entire demeanor softened.

“You will protect me?”

“Always.”

Fenrir’s answer came instantly.
