He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 126

"I'll be right there," Ottilie said.

Hanging up, she walked back into the room and saw that Yves had already packed his things.

"Can we head out, Tilly?"

"Yeah." Ottilie immediately processed his discharge papers and drove him home.

Yves had already moved out of his family's house and into a studio apartment.

It was a modest space—barely four hundred square feet—split into a small loft.

His bedroom was on the second floor.

With a busted leg, navigating the stairs was a challenge.

Ottilie helped him up. The staircase was so narrow they couldn't walk side by side.

"I can manage the stairs myself," Yves said. "Could you do me a favor and grab me a glass of water?"

Ottilie figured he probably just didn't want her to see him struggling.

"Sure. Take it slow."

Heading to the kitchen, she noticed the small water dispenser hadn't been used in days.

There was an open water bottle on the counter, but who knew if it was still safe to drink.

She grabbed the electric kettle and started boiling some water.

Suddenly, a loud *thud* echoed from the hallway.

Ottilie sprinted out, only to find Yves sprawled at the bottom of the stairs.

"Yves!"

She rushed over and helped him up. "Are you okay? Where does it hurt?"

Yves looked embarrassed. "I lost my footing and slipped. It's not a big deal, don't worry."

"How can I not worry? Maybe we should just go back to the hospital," she said, regretting letting him leave.

"I didn't break an arm or a leg. There's no need for a hospital. Look, I can walk up myself."

Gripping the handrail, he painstakingly dragged himself up step by step, eventually making it to the top.

Ottilie helped him into bed. "The bathroom is downstairs, and going back and forth is going to be terrible for you. How about this—I'll stay here and take care of you for a few days. Once you can use the stairs comfortably, I'll go back."

"Are you sure? Won't that get in the way of your schedule?" Yves felt a twinge of secret delight.

But he was also worried.

Ottilie was a single woman. Staying in the same apartment as him could ruin her reputation.

"It's fine. Just rest. I'll go make us something to eat."

Heading downstairs, Ottilie went out, bought a huge haul of groceries, and completely stocked his fridge.
