Thatcher’s attitude did not make Eliot back down.
He took a step forward and boldly reached out for the metal block.

Eliot said sharply, “Thatcher, this piece stays with me-it’s far safer here. I don’t want you running off right when everything matters most.”
Thatcher’s face darkened at once. He was furious with Eliot’s accusation.
Thatcher widened his eyes and shot back, “Do I look like the kind of man who’d do that? How can you think that of me?”
Eliot kept a tight grip on the metal block and pulled it away from Thatcher. “If I can’t have the metal block, then hand over the Blue Phoenix instead.”
Thatcher was about to fly into a rage.
One of his men was still merging with the Blue Phoenix. Suddenly, a massive level 8 scaled parasite crept up right behind the man.
The beast bared its fangs, thick saliva dripping from its jaws, and fixed its bloodshot stare on Thatcher’s subordinate.
Is Eliot sending me a warning?
He only needs to give the word, and this monster will tear my man apart and seize the Blue Phoenix for good.
Thatcher never imagined the dispute would escalate this far.
He sighed and softened his stance. He pushed the metal block forward into Eliot’s palm.
Then he said, “Eliot, we come from the same bloodline. You’ve been to Capital Planet, too. No matter how we alter our faces, we’re always on the same side. You can have it-just don’t lose it.”
Eliot’s stern expression faded now that Thatcher had backed off.
He grinned. “Naturally, we’re allies. Once I seize control of the 9th Legion, I’ll have these beastmen breed more young warriors. Deep beneath Wasteland City lies a huge vein of cryogold ore. I’ll ship every last chunk out without delay.”

Thatcher laughed at the promising future Eliot had painted. “Once we wipe out the 9th Legion’s troops, I’ll secure safe passage for your people to Griffinkin. When our forces join as one, Capital Planet will belong entirely to us.”
Eliot left with a satisfied look.
Seeing his figure vanish completely from the room, Thatcher immediately slammed his fist against the metal chair behind him.
This is ridiculous! Do they honestly think we can march into Capital Planet and take over an entire clan that easily?
They’re so blind and ignorant!
Right now, countless factions are watching our every move on Capital Planet.
Thatcher’s gaze turned ruthless. Growing a crimson hide was no difficult task for him. Once this whole affair was settled, a new leader would take charge of Wasteland City.

Gillian and Merrick sank down into the taint pool.
Gillian instantly summoned a glowing light bubble and sealed Merrick safely inside it.
She stripped both of their clothes and tossed them down onto the muddy pool bed.
Moments later, a long, tangled root shot up from the bottom of the pool. It wrapped tightly around the light bubble and dragged it into a narrow tunnel only wide enough for one person to crawl through.
Gillian gasped and drew in a lungful of clean fresh air. Her racing heart finally slowed.
Lily craned her neck anxiously. She used Gillian’s white psionic power to study Merrick, whose eyes stayed tightly shut.
She asked nervously, “Mom, is Dad going to be alright?”
Gillian answered gently, “He’ll pull through, Lily.”
She had kept pouring her healing psionic power into Merrick nonstop this whole time.
Lily watched the healing light wrap around Merrick’s body. Whenever it touched the taint in

the cave, thin wispy white mist rose up, only to be soaked right up by the root.
It has sunk deep into Dad Merrick’s flesh. It’s far worse than we first thought.

Shortly after, Merrick blinked awake. He stared at Gillian, soaked head to toe in sweat, and felt most of his painful wounds heal over. The two shared a quiet knowing smile.
Gillian helped Merrick stand to his feet.
Merrick did not lean his full weight on her shoulder. He planted one palm firmly on the cave floor to steady himself.
Merrick murmured softly, “I wonder if this fake death trick will lure our enemies out into the open?”
Gillian sighed, “It all depends on how convincing Elara, Maddox, and the Sovereign Guard troops can act.”
Her heart ached for Merrick. His injuries were severe. Any ordinary beastman trapped in such thick taint for this long would have had their bones dissolved completely.
Lily stepped forward silently and set a cup of murky nectar down in front of Merrick.
She said earnestly, “Drink this, Dad. The taint won’t hurt you nearly as badly after you swallow it.”
Gillian caught sight of the rare nectar and held the cup up so Merrick could drink.
