Maddox’s eyes trembled. His body betrayed his restraint as he pulled her tight into his arms. He swept every object off the metal platform.

The man, having just popped his cherry, was hung like a horse and pounded away with the relentless force of a jackhammer.

This is way more than I bargained for.

Elara tried to slip away, only to be dragged right back into another round. She was completely

worn out.

Dozens of towering water towers once stood beside the murky taint pool.

Now they lay crumpled into piles of broken scrap metal on the ground.

Half the wreckage sank beneath the black liquid, and the rest jutted out above the surface.

A soldier stared at the toxic pit, his voice tight with anxiety. “Colonel Campbell, this raw taint has caused catastrophic contamination. What do we do now?”

The pollution was far worse than anyone had expected.

No ordinary beastman soldier dared step near the area.

Even the members of the Sovereign Guard hesitated to get close.

Still, many of Merrick’s most loyal men stood among the crowd.

Their eyes burned with resolve. They were ready to dive straight into the pool and rescue Merrick without a second thought.

But Adrian ordered everyone to attack Number Five and Number Six.

He even started a brawl, together with Dominic, against Milo and Hugh right in front of the whole unit.

Milo and Hugh had let Maddox slip away, and that was the root of the fight.

Adrian snarled, “If anything happens to Commander Cole, you two will pay with your lives. Seize them immediately.”

He organized a squad of soldiers, arranged shipments of mithril, and began rebuilding the collapsed water towers.

Tristan stared at the infighting among the Sovereign Guard, burning with rage.

How can they turn on each other at a time like this?

He jumped down from the aircraft and landed right in the middle of the fight.

His pink eyes flashed bright, and he unleashed his glamour craft. The power pulled the four brawling men apart.

Tristan snapped, “You waste time fighting among yourselves. Do you truly not care about saving Merrick? Your loyalty doesn’t amount to much at all.”

Adrian and the others stopped throwing punches after Tristan intervened.

Tristan said sharply, “If you have energy to fight, use it to drain this pool faster.”

The minutes ticked by. Tristan was burning with anxiety over Gillian’s safety.

Dominic glowered and shouted, “Mark my words-Commander Cole is still alive. Once we dig him out, you two will face serious consequences.”

He stormed off, still cursing under his breath.

Adrian and the rest finally calmed down and stopped fighting. They split up to launch the rescue operation.

No one was willing to take orders from the others, so they waited patiently for the pumping equipment to arrive.

Once the men scattered, Tristan climbed back onto the aircraft to help Sylas assemble the new metal water towers.

Only after the new towers stood fully built did the small, quiet flower beasts step out into view.

They stared coldly at the beastman soldiers, licked their lips now and then, and wore eerie grins.

Every soldier felt a cold chill run down their spine.

They steered clear of the flower beasts without hesitation.

Sylas and Tristan stood side by side on the aircraft deck.

They watched the flower beasts slowly suck up all the taint from the pool and channel the taint concentrate into the newly built towers.

By the time the work finished, night had fallen completely. The contamination gradually eased, and the troops of the 9th Legion finally breathed easy.

The pit itself was not very large. Still, every faction within the Sovereign Guard refused to cooperate. Each group led a fully armed team deep into the pit to search for the missing Merrick and Gillian.

They carefully shifted through thick mud, hoping to spot Merrick’s body.

The taint was unbelievably corrosive.

In just one single day, the pit had turned into a stinking bog. The mud was thick and sticky, trapping anyone who stepped inside so they could not pull their legs free.

Many men could only climb back out using metal ladders lowered from the aircraft.

Suddenly, Adrian let out a loud cry of excitement. “There is a cave over here!”

His voice echoed across the pit, shocking every searcher.

Adrian darted forward like lightning and slipped straight into the dark opening without pause.
