Every last young parasite in that hospital died. Only this single survivor clung tight to Merrick’s back. Maddox pulled him out amid the chaos, and he seized the chance to slip away.
The blaze burned so fiercely that nearly every top noble family took notice. The Phoenixkin had no choice but to send Eliot back to the Outer Planet.
After the fire at Radiant Mercy Hospital, investigators found ashes belonging to strange, unknown creatures. The powerful clans kept a close watch on the Griffinkin.
Everyone assumed trouble lay within the Griffinkin, and the Phoenixkin easily escaped suspicion. The major families banded together and sealed off most access routes leading to Capital Planet.
Crimson hides on the Outer Planet could no longer sneak in openly. They still crossed the border, but they moved far more quietly and in smaller groups. Little by little, they infiltrated and replaced members of the Griffinkin and Phoenixkin clans.
When border control grew too tight, they stopped sending parasites straight to Capital Planet.
power there. Instead, their kind blended into powerful Outer Planet clans and seized local
Wasteland City held countless living breeding vessels guarded by legion troops. The parasites were never willing to give up such a prime feeding ground.
To keep the 9th Legion in check, they imposed strict total control over all clerics-that was all their doing.
Three years earlier, these crimson hides triggered three dormant taint cores. On the surface, it looked like every cleric died in the toxic explosion. In truth, they secretly abducted dozens of surviving clerics without a trace.
Elara only barely fought her way out, shielded instinctively by the people around her.
When she turned back to search for survivors, the ground was covered in rotting bodies- clerics and tainted beasts mixed together. The mud was thick and sticky, far too messy to sort one corpse from another.
Elara fell seriously ill for a full week after that incident. From then on, the 9th Legion never accepted new cleric recruits again.
Lucian’s team rescued the clerics trapped in Firefox City. Without the logs stored inside this wrist terminal, they would never have located the captives hidden across the other three cities, not even until their deaths.

He had sent all those coordinates to Lucian the previous night. A breakthrough would come soon enough.
Merrick pulled his wandering thoughts back into focus. To keep Thatcher from growing suspicious, he ordered every parasite embedded within the legion to send real-time location updates. He waited until the warships flew safely out of weapons range.
Thatcher finally breathed a small sigh of relief. He still refused to let the matter drop and demanded a proper explanation. He typed, “Why didn’t you strike last night? We agreed you would attack right after you emerged.”
Merrick had only pretended to pass out. He clearly heard everything Eliot said to Thatcher. He kept up the act and calmed Thatcher down.
Merrick typed, “I said I would launch the assault once I got out, yet plans shifted. Maddox took the holder of that metal block captive. If we wipe out the 9th Legion right now, who will help us unlock the metal block? You claimed this relic matters more than anything-was that all a lie? Isn’t it leftover equipment from the old research lab?”
Thatcher’s sharp glare softened bit by bit. He set aside his doubts about Eliot and replied in a much milder tone.
He typed, “You know how vital this metal block is. All the lab research records were destroyed. If we want our kind to reproduce freely without shortened lifespans, we have to recover every last file and restart the experiments.”
Merrick sent a cold reply, “You’d better not be lying to me.”
Thatcher’s subordinate glanced at the screen, envy clear in his voice. “Eliot really pulls off this disguise perfectly.”
He was also one of the naturally born young parasites. He had latched onto a beastman host when they were still children.
Most promising candidates never grow into peak elites like Merrick. If Eliot devours this host, he inherits everything-status, talent, reputation, all handed to him on a platter. He truly got lucky.
Blue Phoenix, who had been keeping watch over the taint base, reached the final stage of fusion yesterday. That was why Thatcher held back from making any reckless moves overnight.
Thatcher narrowed his eyes and frowned. “Is that so? I think he is starting to get out of hand.”
Something feels very off about his attitude. Could he be trying to blackmail me?
