“Okay.” Elara kept the stardust sand steady with her psionic power, guiding the glowing grains toward their destination.
Following her energy signal, Leila drove its roots forward and kept digging through the earth.
Their stalled advance finally got back on track.
Lily and Ruby stared wide-eyed. The stardust sand drifted across everyone’s hair and clothes. They carefully held back their small blooms and twisting root tendrils. A sudden gust from quick movement would stir the star particles into a chaotic swirl.
Lily spoke in a sweet, childish tone filled with excitement, “Aunt Elara, this sand is so beautiful. Where did you get it? Can I take some to give to Mom?”
Elara pretended she had not heard the question.
Ruby thought Lily’s voice was too soft. She wrapped her thick roots around Elara’s calf and urged, “Aunt Elara, Lily is talking to you.”
Elara blinked and apologized. “Oh, I didn’t catch that just now.”
Where did it come from? I can’t say.
Elara smiled gently, “Lily, this material only works in zones with messed-up magnetic fields. Even this small box could throw the whole main district on Capital Planet into total chaos. If you bring this back to the 9th Legion, your Dad Merrick will grab his sword and spank you.”
“Is this thing really that powerful?” Lily’s eyes went wide.
She no longer wanted to pass the sand along and cause trouble for Gillian and Merrick.
Maddox watched the faint smile tugging at Elara’s mouth.
Beautiful things always come with danger-just like Elara herself, just like this stardust sand.
He shifted his gaze away. The current coordinates still deviated wildly from the location of the Central World Marker.
They would probably use up every grain in the metal box.
This sand was essential for entering the Stellar Ore Black Hole. Elara had not set foot there in six years, so why did she still carry a full supply?

Reading her guilty expression, Maddox instantly knew the treasure had belonged to him all along.
He opened the storage space on his wrist terminal and checked. Sure enough, all his stock was
gone.
She had cleaned out his entire reserve.
Maddox stood right behind Elara. His low, chilly tone sent a shiver down her spine. “Elara, do you have any idea how valuable these supplies are?”
Elara shot a quick look at Gillian, signaling her to take over control of the stardust sand.
Gillian stepped in right away. Her golden-white psionic power wrapped around the glowing sands, brightening the whole tunnel even further.
Elara stepped close to Maddox. “Maddox, we’re practically husband and wife. Why split everything down to the last coin? If you really mind this much, I’ll give it all back.”
She then pressed the nearly empty metal box firmly against his chest.
Elara sighed, “If we can’t find the Central World Marker, we’ll be stuck down here forever. How are we ever supposed to get back to Capital Planet? Don’t blame me for dragging my feet.”
Maddox clamped his hand down over hers and said quietly, “We are not legally married yet. No official paperwork means my property stays mine. You have to pay if you want to use it.”
Elara was clearly planning to use his things for free. She wanted his body and his goods, and she refused to spend a single coin.
Gillian looked over while taking over the control. She saw that Elara had nearly emptied the whole box.
She offered quickly, “Elara, this must be extremely precious. Name your price, and I will pay you back.”
Elara pulled her hand free from Maddox’s grip with a sharp tug. “Gillian, I used it, so I’ll be the one to settle the debt. I’ll write my husband an IOU.”
An IOU?
Merrick has stacks of those piled higher than mountains.
Gillian shook her head firmly. “No. You’re only using this for the mission. Besides…”
