The comment section had been completely manipulated. Viewers stared at the good-looking men and women on screen, far more pleasing to the eye than the two fierce female fighters everyone had been watching earlier.
Elowen had already returned to the building, though she stayed outside the main hall.
When she heard Omar yelling threats inside, she ordered the staff to lock the hotel’s main
gates.
Elowen still owed Gillian and Elara a favor, and she intended to pay it back today.
She pulled a thin cigarette from her case, lit it, and took a slow drag before exhaling the
smoke.
Elowen gave her order in a sultry, sharp tone. “Send a message to the 9th Legion. Tell them Gillian and Elara are fighting a Phoenixkin beastman inside Winterhush House. Ask them to rush over with backup right away.”
The attendant hesitated nervously. “Ms. Voss, if we do this, we will make enemies of the entire Phoenixkin clan.”
Phoenixkin isn’t someone to mess with.
Elowen shot him a sharp look. “Am I the owner, or are you?”
She knew full well the risk, but if she failed to protect Gillian, Merrick the madman would tear Winterhush House apart brick by brick.
Elowen said, “We rely on Black Rick for our survival. Even if the Phoenixkin come seeking revenge, Black Rick will be their first target. What have you got to fear?”
Her face was half hidden by drifting smoke. The cold glint in her eyes made the attendant dare not raise another objection.
He nodded, “Right away, Ms. Voss.”
Beneath the white pear blossom tree, petals drifted down and settled all over Omar’s body.
Omar had watched his beast crystal get torn out with his own eyes. Rage and grief twisted his features.
He shouted, “Is everyone in Wasteland City a cold-blooded killer? Black Rick murdered my

cousin, and now you attack me. Are you picking a full-scale fight with the Phoenixkin?”
Gillian glanced at the shallow cut on Lily’s root tendril; she would tend to the injury once this matter was settled.
She said, “Elara, keep him restrained.”
Elara wove blue-white psionic power into writhing energy strips that coiled tightly around Omar’s limbs.
She replied, “I’ve got him, Gillian. Take care of what you need to do.”
Omar kept shouting insults, trying to ruin the 9th Legion’s reputation.
His performance felt staged.
Gillian wasted no time arguing with him. She picked up the wrist terminal she had just seized and examined its port.
It was just a regular metal connector with no hidden modifications.
She pressed Omar’s hand against the device. “Unlock your permissions. What footage have you been secretly filming?”
A sly smirk tugged at Omar’s mouth. Whether by accident or on purpose, he projected the live feed onto the open screen.
Lily could not stand his cocky attitude. She lashed him with one root tendril. Omar stumbled and crashed onto the floor, gasping in pain and still cursing nonstop.
Lily then wrapped her vines around him and hoisted him upside down from the pear tree.
The moment the terminal screen went public, a familiar voice echoed out loud. “Hand over the antidote right now, or I will cut you to pieces.”
Gillian’s heart sank when she saw the live footage.
It showed Merrick overpowering Norris, forcing him to hand over some unknown item. Norris laughed wildly on screen, “I have nothing. Even if I did, I would never give anything to you
monsters.”
Four billion viewers were tuned in, and the number kept climbing.
A small split screen also broadcast the moment she ripped out Omar’s beast crystal.

The comment thread exploded with accusations calling her a murderer.
The situation had turned sharply against them.
